Every Halloween party needs one drink that does the work of a decoration. This is it: three ingredients, a foaming green surface, and a curl of fog drifting over the rim of the bowl. Children ask for it before they've tasted it.
Ingredients
- 2 liters lemon-lime soda
- 1 quart lime sherbet
- 2 cups pineapple juice
- 1 packet dry ice (for effect, do not consume)
- Gummy worms for garnish
Instructions
- In a large cauldron or punch bowl, scoop the lime sherbet into the bottom.
- Pour the pineapple juice over the sherbet and stir gently until partially melted.
- Slowly add the lemon-lime soda and watch it foam.
- Add a small piece of dry ice to the outer edge of the bowl for a smoky effect. Keep it out of reach of children and never let guests touch or drink it.
- Float gummy worms on top and serve in clear cups so the bubbles show.
Why it works & making it ahead
The sherbet is what makes the foam, so scoop it in first and pour the soda over it last — stirring too early flattens the whole effect. Mix the juice and sherbet up to an hour ahead and keep it cold; add the soda the moment guests arrive. Dry ice goes in a small piece at the outer edge of the bowl only, never in a cup, and never within a child's reach.
